![]() In our chaotic, modern, and always connected world, it is essential to be able to unwind. But, with technology at our fingertips 24/7, it is more difficult to switch off and take a break. It’s difficult to have any real downtime since we feel pressure from society to maintain our productivity and our constant attachment to technology. While technology has improved our lives greatly, if we don’t take breaks, it can turn into something negative and can be detrimental to our mental health.
Find A Hobby Take time out of your day to engage in an activity that you enjoy that is not technology related. There are so many times during your day where you get sucked into your phone for a half an hour, an hour, or even more. Instead, you could read a book, meditate, go for a walk, etc. Use the time you usually spend on your phone to do something else that you enjoy. Exercise Too often, we stare at our phones and aimlessly scroll when we have a stressful day. Instead, try to get some fresh air or hit the gym. Physical activity will allow you to process your stressful day productively. The best part? While aimless scrolling only pushes the stress away for a short time, physical exercise actually reduces stress. Create a Night Routine People tend to scroll on social media right before bed, and either have trouble falling asleep or don’t get deep, restful sleep. Creating a routine before bed that does not contain using your phone helps you wake up feeling more rested and energetic. Technology is amazing and beneficial in so many ways, but it can also be addictive. Excessive use of technology will negatively impact your mindset. With this knowledge, be intentional about your technology use, and do a digital detox to reduce the hours you spend on your phone. Your overall mental health and wellbeing will thank you.
