Oftentimes, it is because things have become too routine and not exciting enough. While creating routines is important to make sure we are prepared for the situations that lie ahead, when routine becomes monotonous we forget why we are doing it. We can forget what made us love it in the first place.
Mix it up Routines are important but sometimes it is good to change it up a bit. One of the ways we can change routines in a positive way is to add something that makes it fun. Create a small challenge for yourself, create a game within the day to day tasks, or give yourself a reward after a certain amount of time. By mixing it up, it can become fun again and remind us why we are doing it in the first place. Find your reason Take some time and think about why you do what you do. Ask yourself what made you love it in the first place. By reminding yourself of the reason you started and why you are passionate about what you do, it makes it easier to fall back in love with it. When we love what we do, it becomes much easier to keep going. It fuels us on the days that motivation is low and we have to rely on discipline. Create a pro/con list When we are questioning why we do what we do it is helpful to see the positives. By creating a pro/con list we can see the positives laid out right next to the negatives. This allows us to see that positives of what we are doing outweigh the negatives, and it makes it easier to stay focused on the plethora of positive reasons why we started. If the negatives outweigh the positives, however, then it can signal that maybe it is time to step away for a while and maybe find something else you are passionate about. Staying in love with what we do makes it easier to work hard every day. Even when we don’t love every task we have to do, if we are passionate about why we are doing it, we can stay disciplined.
