Both negative and positive events can inflict stress on a person, and stress isn't necessarily a bad thing if a person can moderate these feelings. However, when a person experiences long periods of chronic stress it is almost sure to negatively affect their performance and mindset, especially when it is not managed properly. Behavioral symptoms consist of things like social withdrawal and increased conflict with others. Difficulty making decisions, difficulty staying focused, and negative thoughts are some cognitive signs. Emotional signs include irritability, decreased motivation, low self-esteem, and anxiety.
